Final evaluation

My wonderland is a world with magical creatures. The main character is a valiant warrior who masters a variety of weapons. Along his journey, he encounters different wizards and imbues his weapons with unique magic.

The first image depicts a wizard casting magic upon a weapon. An old wizard commands the power of lightning. He plants his staff into the ground, chants a spell, and channels the lightning's force into the sword. I painted the wizard's face with scars to show the hardships he endured in his magical research.

I designed the warrior's armor on the legs and arms to be very sharp. The second image demonstrates the function of this design. I believe that when facing enemies around, a single weapon is not enough. I  also drew the lightning sword that had appeared before.

The third picture shows a different weapon—a flaming samurai sword. In terms of composition, I positioned the warrior at the center of the frame and employed perspective to enhance the visual impact. I added orange and red to the armor to shou the glow of flames illuminating the metal. I consider this image to be the finest among all my works. The dark background accentuates the central subject, while the protagonist's posture and movements heighten the visual impact. The metallic texture and reflections of the armor are great.

In the fourth picture, I drew a magical creature to embody the world I've crafted. This is a bird with freezing power, rendered in blue to emphasize its icy nature. The snowy landscape serves as a backdrop that shows the power of the bird. I also included a new weapon—a blue longsword. As the entire composition revolves around ice and snow, I added details like the snow ontop the warrior's head.

In the last picture, I aimed to better showcase a heroic and stylish character design. For this purpose, I choose an almost frontal perspective, allowing viewers to see both the armor's front and partial side profile. I made subtle adjustments to the head armor. The weapon I selected was a frosty power sword, with its massive blade creating a striking visual impact. Additionally, I altered the armor's color palette, not only with gray color. Since the armor is predominantly white, I chose a muted gray background to emphasize the main point.

If I had more time, I'd consider creating an animation that shows the protagonist meeting various wizards and casting unique spells on his weapons. I'd also like to include some action sequences. I'd deepen the protagonist's journey and bring to life the world of combat and magic.

While creating the artwork, I encountered multiple technical hurdles. The first challenge was rendering metallic textures. As evidenced in the initial sketch, I initially struggled with this aspect, but gradually mastered the technique in subsequent drafts. The composition posed another significant challenge, particularly with the armor's dynamic positioning across the character's body. Each armor piece would reveal distinct appearances when viewed from different angles. The final challenge was color application. The inclusion of flames and ambient lighting created complex reflections on the armor, and accurately capturing these varied light effects proved particularly demanding.

Overall, through completing these projects, I gained a solid understanding of color application and composition techniques. Most importantly, I became more proficient in using digital painting tools. I gradually mastered the functions and specific applications of various buttons in these software programs, which will be indispensable for my future career.
